The NHH pilot
The first course to run MMTrader: Trading and Market Microstructure at NHH Norwegian School of Economics.
This is such a significant upgrade to the trading class. My team had a lot of fun in the class and we were so eager to beat the class room.

The course
Trading and Market Microstructure is a bachelor's course at NHH. It never needed convincing that students should trade: the course already ran on a trading simulator. What it wanted was a market students could see all the way into, and one the lecturer could change while it was running.
How MMTrader was used
Four sessions, four cases. Introduction to the Limit Order Book opened the first, and the room traded a book it could see in full. Induced Private Values followed, giving every student a reason to trade that only they could see. Call Auction vs Continuous Trading put the two market models side by side. The fourth was written at NHH for this course. In each session, 85 students traded in a single market, rather than being split into parallel rooms.
One case in the library comes from this course: TR3 Multi-Asset Order-Driven Markets. Two stocks trade side by side while three kinds of desk hold different information: asset exchangers working a switch between them, news desks following one stock each, and a proprietary trader reading the pair. STOCK1 opens with a call auction. Assessment happens after the session.
What the instructor said
Everything worked like clock work, this is amazing guys! I even can change settings mid session, which might be interesting in later lectures.
What the course gained
Students could see the whole order book rather than a summary of it. The lecturer could change the market's settings while it was running, without restarting the session. There were more assets to build a case from, the interface stayed out of the way, and every session came off the platform as six CSV datasets. Support ran alongside the teaching: questions answered during class, and updates through the term.
